Fuels, both liquid and gas, are usually travelling through the system once and are consumed at the end of the line. Since the process stream carries new contamination on a continues basis the amount of solids to be removed can be much higher than in any hydraulic system. The requirements for cleanliness of fuels are part of the fuel specifications and these specifications are met using nominal filtration. (Hydraulic and lubricating oils, which are circulated again and again through the same equipment, require absolute filtration for the best performance of the equipment). The purpose of the filtration is the protection of the system components further downstream in the system, like injection pumps, injection nozzles and other engine parts. The contamination consists amongst others of sand, pipescale and dust, and are originated from the production process, the transport and the storage. If liquid fuels are contaminated with water, or gas fuels are contaminated with liquids the fuel can be treated with a filter/water separator or monitor. Hydro-Carbon offers filters with sizes according to the widely accepted industrial standard of 6' (152 mm) OD, 3.5' (89 mm) ID and length in multiples of 11' and 14.5'. The standardisation provides the possibility to install filters with different filtration ratings and different filtration mechanism. The filter range incorporates pleated paper filters (with large surface area), pleated glassfibre based paper (with large filter area and fine filtration) and depth type filters (with large solids holding capability).
